Ferrari Takes a Better Path Down the Road

Ferrari has been a saving grace of the recession-wracked Italy. This year, Ferrari has planned to take on another strategy to ensure its future success. Aside from currently adding 250 jobs and giving its workers at least €8,500 bonuses, Luca di Montezemolo, the chairman, decides to pull even further away from the crowd.

Ferrari has planned to cut back production this year by 400 cars to around 6,900 vehicles. Even though fewer cars are involved, it does not mean there will be fewer revenues or profits.  Montezomolo says that they want to increase the exclusivity of Ferrari, maintain the value of the used car market and develop the rest of the business like licensing and products.

According to Financial Times,

This strategy of exclusivity pursued by Ferrari is one already followed by luxury goods houses such as handbag producer Hermès and watchmaker Vacheron Constantin.
