Rolex, and Cartier, and Bulgari, Oh My!
Meet Mark-Francis Vandelli, the son of a model and a multimillionaire industrialist. He’s one of the poshest stars on the television program ‘Made In Chelsea‘, which centers on the lives of twenty-somethings living the luxury life in London’s elite and exclusive areas, and has a collection of luxury watches that would make anyone envious.
Mark-Francis, 26, who has been collecting since his teens, made it a habit to buy a new watch each year in order to amass an impressive collection by his middle ages. Many watch lovers would say he already has an amazing collection, which is comprised of 16 high-end timepieces, many worth a small fortune. The ‘Made In Chelsea” star recently opened up the collection to the Evening Standard to show off a few.
He revealed, during the interview, his three favorite pieces and the stories behind them. The first, a Cartier Tortue Collection Privée. This little piece of luxury is favored by Mark-Francis because it isn’t made anymore. The exclusivity of the watch makes it rare, less likely for Mark to be caught wearing it at the same time as someone else, which is very important to Mark,
“Cartier doesn’t make this one, which I love. I did see someone else wearing it once, however – I was at the Wolseley and it was this fat American, I was mortified.” – Mark-Francis Vandelli
The second, a Rolex yellow gold Oyster Perpetua. Though it’s an item of luxury, this timepiece hardy and well built. It’s Mark-Francis’ East London travels watch, as it is fit for swimming, raving, throwing, partying, sleeping, hardwearing whatever watch. You can find a style like it online for about £8,000.
The final piece, the flashy Bulgari Bulgari Chrono 42, has the most history for Mark-Francis. This particular watch was bought on holiday in Italy, but he has a special spot for the Bulgari line. He told the newspaper,
“When I was 16 my grandmother gave me the first prototype of the Bulgari Bulgari, which the Bulgari family had given her in the 1950s – I think it’s one of the only ones that was actually hand engraved around the bezel.”
Sadly, the reason Mark-Francis bought the Chrono 42 was, he fell into a river, rowing at school, while wearing the watch his grandmother gave him. He needed a modern version to keep the sentimental timepiece safe in the collection. You can find a secondhand Bulgari Bulgari Chrono 42 for about £65,000 online.
The most expensive watch in young Mark-Francis’ collection is a Cartier white gold Moonphase. He purchased is earlier this year in Chelsea from a shop in Sloane Street. He had to have it. The sun and moon dials that moved throughout the day, according to phase caught his eye. The Cartier set him back £32,000, but it was a worthwhile add to his luxury collection.
