Gucci and Will.i.am give us the i.am+

Gucci is getting in the game with Apple via their new collaboration with Will.i.am on the i.am+, announced last week at Baselworld. Baselworld is the renowned watch and jewelry trade show that takes place each spring in Basel, Switzerland. Thousands of exhibitors come from all over the world to show off the leading brands and newest productions in watches, jewelry, and even precious stones. Gucci, the Italian fashion company created by Guccio Gucci, is excited for the new partnership with Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am.

In order to compete with the Apple watch, and various other smart-watches being released, these two powerhouses will have to come up with something truly innovate in the form of wearable technology. No doubt it will be luxurious and and extremely fashionable, as both are creative prodigies. The device, unlike other watches on the market, this watch will be its own entity, meaning you wont need a smartphone and an app to operate the watch. The smartband by Gucci and i.am+ will be a revolutionary piece of technology. Will.i.am had to say,

“In creating a device that is both fashionable and technologically advanced, we aim to define this category. I coined the term “fashionology”… a merging of the worlds of fashion and technology, and that is exactly what this collaboration with Gucci represents.”

The smartband to be developed will have many features, all without the use of a smartphone. You’ll be able to send calls, text messages and emails, as well as receive them, listen to music, use maps, the calender, and fitness applications. There will also be a personal assistant function that is sophisticated and highly developed. Much like Siri, it too will have have a voice command activation. There aren’t any details or more specifics when it comes to prices or a launch time. Those details will be released at a future time.
