Disney and World Balance come out with 4 limited edition running shoes
The 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon happens on January 12 and an elite few of the 26,000 runners will get to wear the limited edition event runDisney sneakers thanks to Disney’s partnership with New Balance.
According to brandchannel.com:
The brands teamed up last year to create character themed sneakers, and this year the ongoing partnership has grown to include other beloved characters of the franchise.
The shoes introduced last year during marathon weekend sold out in the few days they were available at the expo, according to Competitor.com. “We’ve never seen anything close to that kind of an excitement for a shoe,” said Josh Rowe, who heads up global performance marketing for New Balance. “People stood in line for an hour and bought any size that was left, even if it wasn’t close to their size.”
The 2013 runDisney New Balance shoes were a hit at last year’s Disney Health and Fitness Expo, a whopping 1,000 pairs sold-put within 10 hours of the first weekend marathon.
This year, the goal is not to run out of the shoes. But that is yet to be proven since the clamor for the kicks has started in December thanks to the avid promotion by Disney. There are 4 designs for the 2014 New Balance runDisney shoes, which all have versions for children. The Sorcerer Mickey and Goofy are the 2 men’s styles and the pink Minnie Mouse and Cinderella are the 2 styles for the ladies.
Aside from the running shoes, there will also be inserts, lace charms and specially designed New Balance-runDisney co-branded boxes, which makes this year’s offering more special.
So how limited edition are these kicks? They will only be available at the Disney theme parks, during the seven runDisney events for 2014. The Disney Health and Fitness Expo events are free but of course, the shoes are not. The Sorcerer Mickey Mouse and the Minnie Mouse 860v4 runDisney shoes will retail for $125. Meanwhile, the Cinderella and Goofy 890v4 shoes will cost $120 and the children’s version shoes are $72 per pair.
