Sunborn Gibraltar: The World’s First 5-Star Yacht Hotel
Yes, you read that right–Sunborn Gibraltar is a luxury hotel and a yacht all in one.
Sunborn Gibraltar is the answer to the huge demand for five star hotels in the area, given the limited 6.8 square kilometers of land in the British territory of Gibraltar.
According to edition.cnn.com:
The mammoth 142-meter superyacht will rest its anchor in Gibraltar’s Ocean Village Marina, located off the southern tip of Spain, with plans to open its doors to the public by the end of this year.
Boasting 189 rooms, spa and gym, cocktail lounges, conference rooms, and even a ballroom, the luxury liner will be one of the grandest structures in the Mediterranean.
The $200 million Sunborn Yacht Hotel project is 142 meters with 15,500 square meters of floor area with over seven hotel floors. The 18 all have panoramic marina and sea views framed by full-height glass, with 90% having a balcony or terrace area. The ballroom can host 360 guests, the top floor restaurant and bar can cater to 250 and the conference rooms can hold from 500-1000 delegates.
Sunborn Gibraltar will be plugged into the dock with six very strong hydraulic arms, weighing eight tons each. Once on board, the guests are promised an opulent experience not different from a five star hotel on land.
Opening this late summer or early fall, Sunborn Gibraltar is set to attract tourists from all over Europe and the world. The expected cost of rooms fall between $300 and $3,000 per night.
