What a steal: a private island home for $3.95M

A big aspect of luxury is exclusivity. For luxury home owners this means having the privacy and freedom to thrive in a secluded and restful place away from the chaos of everyday living.

Luxury homes are such great retreats and owning a private island is just about as opulent as one can go.

There is a small island that recently went up in the market and it is priced quite reasonably considering its features.

According to huffingtonpost.com:

Located in Brandford, Connecticut, Belden Island is quite possibly the cutest thing we’ve ever seen. It was built in 1912 and according the listing by Sotheby’s International, the home has four bedrooms, two fireplaces and amazing landscaping. The gorgeous wood floors, charming patio and amazing view are all just icing on the cake.

Belden Island is one of the nine Thimble Islands in Long Island Sound. The Thimbles have long been rumored to have Captain Kidd’s buried treasure. The entire archipelago was bought by Christine Svenningsen (widow of widow of party-goods magnate John Svenningsen) in the late ’90s.

While no underground treasures have been found yet, the one acre Belden Island is a treasure in itself. Here’s what’s included in the $3.95Million price tag:

  • a century-old but well preserved cottage (with wraparound porch, wainscoted walls, 4 bedrooms and 2 fireplaces)
  • small sand beach
  • rock beach
  • wide and well-manicured lawn
