Deck the halls with lots of Barbie!

Christmas marks the release of many toys for children, collectible items and over-the-top luxury gifts. This year, the famous Barbie gets a special holiday makeover like no other thanks to Selfridges  and the high-profile milliner Stephen Jones. The well-known hat maker went all-out with 5 unique and flamboyant looks for Barbie.

According to vogue.co.uk:

“We’re enamoured with the idea of truly one-of-a-kind gifts this Christmas,” said Selfridges’ head of accessories, childrenswear and toys, Erin Moscow. “More than ever before we’re aware of the demand for pieces which offer something really special. These pieces don’t necessarily come with a million-pound price tag – they’re not about ostentatiousness – their beauty lies in their rarity. All of the storytelling and fantasy of Stephen’s work, realised with fun and witticism that’s synonymous with Barbie, has gone into these beautiful dolls.”

Each of the dolls are priced at £250 (about $405) each and were launched on November 15 at Selfridges London’s Toy Shop’s exclusive space for Barbie dolls. Stephen Jones tells Vogue about his work:

“Barbie is the most fabulous private client,” said Jones. “She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits! Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future.”

The Holly Surprise Barbie is the designer’s favorite. It has the contrast of soft velvet and spiky holly leaves, plus Barbie is featured with a pet Robin on her hair.

The Santa Baby Barbie has a posh cocktail dress of velvet and crystals inspired by Mrs. Santa Claus’ outfit.

The Snow Globe Barbie is a magical and glamorous doll with floating snowflakes encased in a snow globe on the upper half of her body.

The Christmas Tree Barbie resembles the volume of a pine tree and full avante garde feel with the play of textures, baubles and beads.

The Toffee Ice Barbie takes cues from the reindeers who prance and dance. Stephen Jones says I wanted to make Barbie an outfit in which she can dance and prance on the ice rink.”
