Starbucks $450 limited edition rose gold card sold out in seconds

Last year, Starbucks released 5,000 limited edition cards. This year, the coffee giant decided to make things a little bit more exclusive by coming out with just a thousand metal cards.

According to latimes.com:

The Starbucks brand doesn’t exactly bring to mind sports cars, yachts and mansions with rounded driveways, but the Seattle-based coffee giant is attempting luxury with a new $450 all-metal gift card, just in time for the holidays. It’s shiny, it’s fancy and it has the company name laser-etched into its smooth rose-colored exterior.

Now on its second year, Gilt.com and Starbucks collaborated for the limited edition card which went officially on sale last Friday.

The $450 card is “hand-assembled, features a gorgeous artisan rose base metal and rose colored coating.” It is also preloaded with $400 worth of Starbucks credit and automatically puts the account holder’s “My Starbucks Rewards” status to “gold level”, which means a free birthday treat, a 15% off coupon at StarbucksStore.com, free refills on iced or brewed coffee and tea and a frequent buyer program with stars.

Only 1,000 cards were made and all were sold out within six seconds after it went on sale at Gilt and more than 11,000 people were wait-listed for the card at some point.
