The Mac Pro is finally here, see what’s included in its hefty price tag
The world has been swept away by mobile devices and convenient connectivity so much that desktop computers seem like things of the past. Well, Apples just brought the interest back to the desktop thanks to the release of the Mac Pro.
According to edition.cnn.com:
Apple’s Mac Pro, the high-end show horse of the company’s desktop line, goes on sale Thursday, restoring some luster to deskbound computers that have been overshadowed by the mobile revolution.
In some ways the Mac Pro, which will be available for preorder on Apple’s website and Apple stores, is like the fancy haute couture dresses that get walked down the runways of Paris and New York.
At more than $3,000, the sleek machine is more computer than most people need or can afford. But it serves as a showcase for what its creator can do.
The 10-inch tall Mac Pro looks bespoke more than anything else with its size (9.9 inch height and 11 pounds weight) and sleek glossy cylindrical body of silver and black. It is also twice as fast compared to its predecessor. The price starts at $2,999 and custom modifications can go up to about $12,000.
The base model ($2,999) has the following:
- 3.7GHz quad-core Xeon E5 processor
- 256GB of PCIe-connected flash storage
- 12GB of RAM, and dual AMD FirePro D300 graphics cards with 2GB of video memory each.
The stock model ($3,999) has the following:
- 6-core Xeon E5 processor running at 3.5GHz
- 256GB of flash storage
- 16GB of RAM
- dual AMD FirePro D500 graphics with 3GB of video memory each.
The $9,600 model has the following:
- 2.7GHz 12-core processor
- 64GB of RAM
- 1TB SSD
- dual AMD GPU with 6GB of VRAM
And yep, you read that right—the price does not include a display monitor, mouse or keyboard, just the sleek Mac Pro. Shipping for those who purchased early will begin on December 30 but the influx of orders mean that those who will order now will get theirs past March 2014.
